Patients are often asked to us for reviews of our six month braces treatments, and so in this blog post we thought it the ideal opportunity to show you some before and after photographs of patients that have been treated with six month braces.

Six month braces review number one.

This patient disliked how crooked her teeth were, particularly the canines which were excessively protruding, one can also see that the gum line across the tops of each teeth is also not even. Ideally the gum line needs to be in exact alignment with the top lip when you are smiling, when you look at the after photograph you can see that the six month braces were able to align the teeth to ensure they matched the top lip.

Six month braces review number two

This patient did not like the gaps and spaces between her teeth, typically these spaces look black and dark when you smile and can often be caused by thumb sucking or tongue thrusting as either a child or an adult. You can see that the six month braces were able to re-align teeth, ensuring that the all important spaces are closed, and that the gum margin naturally matches the top lip.

Six month orthodontics review number three

Often teeth can be very rotated and twisted. Look at this patients tooth on the left of the photograph (patients right) this is severely rotated, this not only affects the aesthetics of the smile but also the ability for the patient to keep their teeth clean. Rotated teeth make it difficult to get the toothbrush into the  spaces and flossing can also be very difficult.

Reviews on six month braces number four.

This two front teeth were splayed outwards, this makes the teeth look like buck teeth. For Younger adults engaged in any form of contact sport this can be a particular problem as the teeth can be more prone to chipping. Realignment with orthodontic braces can therefore mean the teeth are brought back into line and less vulnerable.

Many people are seeking teeth whitening nowadays and this is one of the most common treatments as it can almost be completely elective and chosen for virtually any patient.

Am I suitable for teeth whitening?

So long as your teeth are dentally fit and healthy, and you do not have any existing crowns or veneers on the teeth that you want to have whitened then almost everyone is suitable for teeth whitening.

How fast does teeth whitening work?

Home teeth whitening takes a few days to reach a brighter shade, the good thing with home teeth whitening is that it allows you to control the process in the comfort of your own home. You simply where the bleaching trays with the teeth whitening bleaching gel inside for as long as you want, until you have reached the final white colour.

How long does teeth whitening last?

Generally speaking we find that once a person has had their teeth whitening that the teeth will drop back very slightly to a darker colour immediately that the whitening has ceased. As this is the case we recommend that you whiten your teeth very slightly whiter then you finally want them to end up. The whitening will then last for a good length of time so long as you keep your teeth clean and do not allow staining to build up again from either smoking or tea/coffee, wine etc.

Does teeth whitening hurt?

Not normally. You may experience some mild sensitivity whilst you are whitening your teeth, this is normal. Again, the good thing with home teeth whitening is that if you have any sensitivity you simply stop the whitening process. You may find that using a special toothpaste for sensitive teeth helps.

Could I go to a beauty spa or hair salon for teeth whitening?

We recommend that you always have teeth whitening by an adequately trained dental health professional. We always assess your teeth and gums for their overall health prior to whitening, this assessment requires detailed dental training and knowledge to be able to spot potential problems before they happen. If you choose to have your teeth whitening by a person that is not dentally trained then this may be a high-risk strategy.

One of the other problems with beauty spas and hair salons is that of cross infection control. Dental practices are tightly regulated to ensure that any risk of cross infection is completely mineralised, can you be sure that a hair salon or beauty spa works to the same high standards?

Can I have my teeth whitening if I have crowns or veneers?

Teeth whitening only works on natural teeth and will not whiten crowns or veneers, no matter what some other companies may say. If you want whiter teeth and you have existing dental veneers or crowns then the recommendation is to whiten your teeth first, then we can match your new crowns or veneers to this white and colour. The problem with doing it the other way round is that if we were to make your new crowns or veneers first, we have no way of knowing exactly how light, bright and white your teeth will go. Whitening your teeth first removes the guesswork from this process and ensures that your smile looks over all white and even.

We’ve noticed at our dental practice in Dublin the rapid growth of cosmetic dentistry in the local area, this has been fuelled by a need to look younger and prevent the ageing process with celebrities on TV being an obvious catalyst for this.

So what are your cosmetic dental options?

The best way to look at this is to break down your dental needs into each cosmetic area.

  • Cosmetic dentistry to straighten crooked teeth.
  • Cosmetic dental options for whiter teeth.
  • Restoring chipped or worn down teeth in a cosmetic dentistry.
  • Replacing missing teeth functionally and cosmetically.

Cosmetic dentistry to straighten crooked teeth.

This can be done in one of three ways, either straightening teeth with orthodontics, bonding small amounts of composite material to the teeth to straighten them or finally using cosmetic dental veneers to totally straighten the teeth.

The most conservative option is to use orthodontics, this retains all of your natural tooth structure and simply move the tooth to the new position. Bonding or dental veneers are also common, however they involve the addition of a new material to your tooth and whenever we introduce another element there is an increased risk factor.

Cosmetic dental options for whiter teeth.

If your teeth are mildly to moderately dark or yellow teeth whitening would be the perfect solution. Sometimes though, teeth whitening on its own is not enough to whiten teeth either to the preferred white colour or because they were so dark to start off with. If this is the case then ceramic dental veneers can be used to cover the entire tooth surface, thereby replacing it with a new whiter colour.

Restoring chipped or worn down teeth in a cosmetic dentistry.

The most conservative option, which is one that we always prefer, is to apply a small amount of composite material to create an instant veneer over the chipped or worn down tooth. This is only possible if your bite allows it and there is not too much correction to be done.

If there is too much correction for composite to be added in the form of an instant dental composite veneer then the only option left is to use a conventional ceramic dental veneer. These veneers last much longer and are much harder wearing than composite veneers, however they do tend to cost more as there is a skilled dental technician involved in the manufacture.

Replacing missing teeth that are both functional and cosmetic.

Whenever you have a tooth that is missing it is important to replace it to ensure that your bite, jaw and muscles continue to function well. It is also important to ensure that you are confident with your smile and this is where dental implants can be used.

A high-quality dental implant can often be made to look as though it is a natural tooth growing out of your gum, this is the most conservative and natural looking option.

Molesworth dental clinic offers a range of cosmetic dentistry solutions to help with all manner of dental problems. They also offer a free cosmetic consultation, the details of which are at the bottom of his website.

Do you have dentures which are loose all wobbly? Perhaps your dentures fall out when you eat and you find it difficult to eat, smile and chew with confidence?

Let us explain your options for denture stabilisation if you live in Dublin.

How do we stabilise dentures?

Many people struggle for years we dentures the fallout, the first thing to question is whether your dentures fit accurately or not. This should be the first port of call.

However, sometimes a patient’s jaw is just not suitable in shape to necessitate the suction required to keep a denture in place. If you have a shallow palette or not much bone on your lower jaw then dentures have a tendency to slip and slide around.

What’s the solution?

Option 1 to stabilise dentures.

There are a couple of options, you can either opt for a full fixed bridge which sits on a number of dental implants (typically between four and six) this is a permanent and fixed option which he would be unable to remove, this would do away with you loose denture permanently. In many instances it can be made to look as though the teeth are growing out of your gums again, providing a very natural and aesthetic appearance.

Option 2 to stabilise dentures.

We could also place between two and four implants with small clips on top, these clips can be made to fit inside your existing denture. This is often a preferred solution as many patients are happy with the athletics of their existing denture, they just want to stop it moving about. Stabilising dentures this way is an ideal solution.

Of course, if you wish to have a brand-new denture at the same time this is also possible.

Am I suitable for denture stabilisation with dental implants?

As ever, only a full and detailed dental examination will be able to tell for sure. Sometimes it may be required to have some bone grafting to build up the amount of bone in either your upper or lower jaw, this is to give enough bone for the dental implant to fit into and remain strong enough.

We offer a free consultation for dental implants, please take a look at the form at the bottom of his website and complete it to take us up on this offer.

How long does it take to stabilise a denture with implant?

The process takes around six months from initial planning stages to final implementation. Normally we would need to place the dental implants then allow time for them to heal before finally fixing them to your denture. There are however instances where we can place the denture directly on top of the implant at the time of dental implants surgery, however it is not possible to promise this in every case as it rather depends upon the amount and quality of bone that you have in your jaw. Only a full dental implants assessment would tell this for sure.

Molesworth dental clinic is a small family run dental practice in the heart of Dublin, we provide denture stabilisation with dental implants to the local people of Dublin. Please call us today to book your free dental implants consultation.

Do you have missing teeth? Closing the gaps is not only a question of looking better, but also a question of ensuring that your dental health stays in top form for the long-term, let us explain…

When you have all of your teeth your mouth is in balance and harmony, the teeth touch one another which prevents them moving backwards and forwards, they also meet the opposing teeth on the top or bottom jaw, this prevents them from over erupting. Your tongue and cheek also apply pressure to your teeth which keeps them balanced and in harmony on your jaw.

If one of these contacts is removed then the teeth have a tendency to drift. In other words, if a tooth is taken out then the adjacent teeth or have a tendency to fall and collapse into this space, also the tooth on the opposite jaw will have a tendency to over erupt down into this gap.

In the short-term this does not present a problem, however in the long-term it could create bite problems and mean that your teeth become more difficult, complex and expensive to treat as you get older. So if you have a missing teeth it is important to deal with this as soon as possible, but what are your options.

Options for replacing missing teeth in our Dublin Dental practice.

Our practice in Dublin offers three alternatives to replace missing teeth.

  • Dentures.
  • Dental bridges.
  • Dental implants.

Generally speaking dentures are not preferred by the vast majority of the population, people tend not to want to be able to take their false teeth out. Dental bridges are often a viable alternative however they do involve cutting down the teeth either side of the space to provide the bridge support for the new tooth which goes into the gap.

Click for more information on dental implants.

Dental implants however, do not require any reduction or interference with the adjacent teeth, this means they are far more healthy and conservative in their treatment.

The cost of dental implants.

In the short term it can often be viewed at dental implants are more expensive, however if you have only one tooth then we are only treating one tooth with a dental implant. If you opt for a bridge then in order to replace one tooth, we often need to make three teeth as we need to support the new tooth. Depending on your exact situation, it can often be more expensive replacing free teeth than using one dental implants.

The other thing to consider is that dental implants are more likely to last longer than a dental bridge. This means that over the course of your life dental implants can often work out to be the most cost effective option.

What else can dental implants be used for?

Dental implants are always used to replace teeth, however we would normally place one single crown on top, or perhaps four or five crowns bridged over two or three implants. It is also possible to place 2 to 4 implants to stabilise a loose denture.

Molesworth dental clinic is a practice in the heart of Dublin, they have a special interest in the replacement of missing teeth using dental implants. If you would like more information or a free consult to discuss your options please give the practice a call on the local Dublin number.

Many people today want to have straighter teeth, and conventional orthodontic therapies traditionally can take up to 18 months to complete. However with six month braces which uses a revolutionary new way of moving the teeth treatment times can be reduced to… Well, six months!

Are all orthodontic braces used for six months?

The answer to this is no, sometimes we may need to do nine month braces and sometimes the treatment can be completed in three months. It’s all rather depends on the severity of your crooked teeth and how much orthodontics is actually required in order to move your teeth to the final position.

Our six month braces invisible?

The the big question on everyone’s lips is what are instant veneers? Over the past year or so instant veneers have increased rapidly in interest due to their inclusion on the Jeremy Kyle show.

If your teeth are crooked, chipped or broken down in any way then it could be that your smile can be restored using a simple bonding technique or instant veneers.

How are instant veneers made?

Instant dental veneers are made by applying a thin layer of special dental composite material to the outer surface of your tooth. This material very closely matches the natural colour and texture of your natural teeth. The dentist has a range of these materials in different colours and translucency is which he can apply to the surface of your tooth.

Prior to applying this instant veneer material, your dentist will gently roughen the surface of the tooth to ensure a good bond.

Once the instant dental veneer is finished, your dentist will polish it to the same texture as your surrounding teeth.

Am I suitable for instant veneers?

If you have one or two teeth that have some mild discolouration, pitting or chips in them then you could be suitable for the instant veneer treatment. If you have many teeth that are rotated then it could be that orthodontics is the best solution.

In some cases if your teeth are slightly discoloured or have some chips and are crooked then we can straighten your teeth using invisible braces for six month braces, then we can lighten them with teeth whitening and finally we can apply the instant composite veneer material over the surface of your tooth to achieve the final result.

How long do instant veneers last from your Dublin dental practice?

This type of dental veneer has a tendency not to last as long as conventional ceramic dental veneers. However due to the fact that they are simple to repair, a quick visit to the dentist is all that is required and your instant veneers can be repaired very quickly.

The composite material used for this type of veneer also may pick up cigarette and stains from food and drink more readily than a conventional veneer. So you will need to ensure that your oral hygiene routine is maintained and that you keep your instant dental veneers clean.

What is the cost of instant veneers?

Generally speaking instant veneers are less expensive than conventional ceramic veneers. This is because ceramic veneers require a skilled dental technician to make them for you, this clearly has an added expense making the overall ceramic veneers more expensive than instant composite veneers.

To know exactly how much instant veneers will cost you, the best thing to do is to book for an assessment at the practice. We can then do a full and detailed cosmetic dental assessment to decide exactly if instant veneers are suitable for you, and to give you a full treatment plan including the cost.

Cosmetic Dentistry – Providing Confidence and Dental Health

Very few people are born with perfect teeth; most are simply forced to live with imperfections that can be minor or major. Some will suffer from a lifetime of embarrassment because of an overbite, gapped teeth, or missing teeth without ever looking into the possibility of cosmetic dentistry. Experts in dental care can provide almost any type of enhancement procedures to improve the appearance of your teeth, from whitening to straightening, replacement or placement. Don’t spend your life covering your smile – visit with a dental clinic that can give you a beautiful smile in a surprisingly affordable and often quick way.

Depending upon your specific needs, you can find experts in cosmetic dentistry that can employ long lasting tooth whitening procedures. Many people will find that years of coffee drinking, smoking or antibiotics use has darkened their teeth to a marked degree. However, you can either get tooth bleaching or veneers to immediately lighten your teeth by several shades. The bleaching may need to be repeated, depending on the colour of the teeth, but the veneers are an instant fix to yellow or dark teeth. The veneers can also help disguise imperfections such as crooked teeth or chips on the teeth.

For those who need to straighten their imperfect or crooked teeth, have an under bite or an over bite, cosmetic dentistry can be a permanent solution. Braces, otherwise known as orthodontics, are a process of using tension and time to gradually move the teeth where they need to be. Invisalign is a method of braces that cannot be easily seen, and it may take up to two years to complete this process. Six month braces are just that – moving the front teeth within a six month period of time to ensure a more even set of front teeth permanently. Anyone who has completed the six month braces process please feel free to comment below

Another type of cosmetic dentistry involves dentures, bridges and implants. Many people lose their teeth from either trauma or aging, and this can be distressing for both cosmetic and practical reasons. When many or all of the teeth need to be replaces, dentures are topically applied false teeth that are removed daily for cleaning and for sleep. Bridges are false teeth that may be for one missing tooth or several, and bridges are also removable. Implants are permanent replacements that look like real teeth, but not all people are candidates. Visit with a cosmetic dentistry expert to find the smile you have always wanted.

Dublin Dentist Procedures – Keeping You Smiling
Dublin, the most heavily populated city in Ireland, is home to over 500,000 people within the city limits. We in this area pride ourselves on mixing innovative technology and advanced culture status with old fashioned charm, and this means that many residents in and around Dublin can enjoy quality care with a Dublin dentist – such as those found here at The Molesworth Clinic – and the latest techniques to give you a beautiful and healthy smile. The teeth are often taken for granted until there is a problem. This means avoidable health issues could have been prevented with regular checkups and visits with a dentist.
The mouth is a powerhouse of bacteria. While many types of bacteria are important to help in the breakdown of food and for the production of saliva, if there is a problem with the teeth or gums, this could give bad bacteria a chance to invade and cause infection. A Dublin dentist can help prevent these problems by cleaning the gums thoroughly, thus removing areas of gum infection. In addition, a dentist can extract bad and infected teeth or clean them and create barriers around cavities so they are not exposed. This can remove infection, halitosis, and pain in the mouth.
Besides the basic care, a Dublin dentist can also provide many cosmetic dental procedures that will improve the overall appearance of the teeth. The teeth are instrumental to your body’s health. Infection or abscesses in the mouth can lead to serious illnesses that are often misdiagnosed. These symptoms can range from sweating, fevers, sinus problems and pain, and can even lead to permanent damage to the heart and surrounding valve tissues. Prevention is the best way to care for your health, but if you suspect that you have infection in your mouth, you need to see a dentist without delay.
Many people have crooked teeth and do not wish to have braces; veneers and crowns are a perfect solution to a quick and perfect set of teeth. A dentist can provide crowns, veneers, orthodontics, wisdom teeth removal, extractions, teeth whitening, dentures, implants and many other procedures. If you are not sure which procedure is right for you, call and set up a consultation appointment, and you can discuss your concerns and options with a qualified dentist that is certified in orthodontia, oral surgery, and cosmetic procedures. Have the beautiful smile you have always dreamed of with Dublin dental professionals.
